Premier League Predictions - Week 2
Week 2 of the Premier League and all the big guns have won their first game. Will there be any upsets in week 2? See below for my weekly predictions:
Cardiff v Newcastle
Cardiff defeat to Bournemouth was a welcome to PL for the newly promoted side. Cardiff had 37% possession & one shot on target from which they scored. Newcastle were unlucky against Spurs but lady luck was against them. The Cardiff City stadium will be buzzing for this game but both teams need a win. I’m going for Newcastle, just!
Everton v Southampton
10 men Everton did very well to get a result against a very good Wolves side. The miss of Jagielka & Richarlson may take its toll in this match. The Saints started the season with a bore draw, not the ideal result but there was plenty of chances. This was a 1-1 result last season, can’t see any different this time!
Leicester v Wolves
Leicester will count them unlucky in their first game away at Old Trafford, they controlled the play well but lacked that cutting edge. A week’s training under Jamie Vardy will do him the world of good and he could be the difference in this game. Wolves were fantastic last week, a total spend in the summer of €72m, they will definitely stay up this year!
Spurs v Fulham
Will the August hoodoo continue for Harry Kane? If so, this will be a tough match for Spurs. Son is now gone on international duty, so Alli or Ericson will have to step up the plate. Fulham impressed me in their first match back in the Premier League, however there is only one winner on this big Wembley pitch!
West Ham v Bournemouth
Manuel Pellegrini’s team were torn apart against a rampant, energetic Liverpool team. This is the type of game they would struggle to win last year. From the outside, it looks like they will have enough to get over the line. Bournemouth did dominate their last game and will pose some problems against this West Ham side. Two games last season finished in score draw’s.
Chelsea v Arsenal
The most anticipated game of the weekend. Two new managers, pitting their philosophy’s against one another. For all the talk surrounding Chelsea in pre-season, they hit the ground running last week. Jorginho oozed class & it was a comfortable result for them. Arsenal were hopeful of beating City, but it was never realistic. Can Emery afford to be in the relegation zone after two games? I think they will still be on zero points after this game
Burnley v Watford
A draw, first game of the season away from home is a good result for Burnley. Sean Dyche has a good record in this fixture, winning both matches. My only concern for Burnley is the lack of goals they will score, Wood will get a couple and so will Walters but will they score 2-3 and see matches out? Watford thanked Roberto Pereyra for his two goals and could be a shout for Fantasy Premier League. They didn’t allow Brighton to get a shot on goal and I think it will be a difficult game for Burnley
Man City v Huddersfield
Start as you mean to go on, City did exactly what we expected of them. It’s difficult to see how Huddersfield get something out of this game. The news that rocked City fans this week is the injury to Kevin De Bruyne but I don’t see that as a big miss. When you have the likes Mahrez, Sterling, Sane all who are capable replacements. This will be backs to walls for Huddersield.
Brighton v Man Utd
Brighton will fancy their chances against this United team. Although they struggled to get any momentum against Watford, United will give you chances. It’s just a matter of taking them when they come. Jose’s side limped across the line last week, with players who are not fully fit and a brand new back line. David De Gea saving United points again. Sanchez needs to perform this week, if he does that’s half the battle.
Crystal Palace v Liverpool
We finish up with MNF, and the return for Liverpool to the haunting ground of that Premier League season where they threw away a 3-0 lead. However, last season Mo Salah turned things around got the winner. Palace looked good last week, Zaha looks in good form and Roy managing against one of his former sides will look to get one over on Klopp. I think there is far too much quality on this Liverpool side and I can only see one winner.
