Manchester United Women will play in the top tier of women's football next season after securing promotion to the Women's Super League with a 5-0 win over Aston Villa. They have three games to spare and can now rest easy in the knowledge that they will be competing against the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal next term.

First half goals from Millie Turner, Alex Greenwood and Jess Sigsworth put Man United in control of the game. Ella Toone and Charlie Devlin completed the rout in the second half to give Man United their 15th league win from 17 games.

Man United are the only fully-professional outfit in a predominantly part-time division which automatically made them favourites for promotion and they have now achieved that aim.

There are no issues expected to arise with regards to Man United's WSL licence application so their place in the 2019/20 season is expected to be confirmed in the middle of May.

Casey Stoney's side have scored a remarkable 81 goals in their 17 games, including a 12-0 win over Aston Villa on the opening day of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies are seven points behind in second place with three games left to play.

The Red Devils will end their season on a high by winning the FA Women's Championship if they beat Crystal Palace on Saturday at their home ground Leigh Sports Village.
